Biography

Andre has over his career been engaged in teaching and developing courses across most business and commercial subjects for different audiences from enterprise resources for primary, secondary and FE schools and colleges, through economics and accounting for HE access (University of Cape Town and London School of Economics) to quantitative methods and development economics for MBA students (Universities of Cape Town and Wales). Presently, Andre supervises students at the Royal Docks Business School at the University of East London (UEL), and manages the Centre for Innovation, Management and Enterprise (CIME). In this role he develops enterprise education structures and programmes across UEL, teaches the university wide ‘Driving Entrepreneurship’ module and supports student enterprises. Andre was a recent recipient of a HEFCE/UnLtd social enterprise award for his vision to mobilise virtual worlds for low risk enterprise and employability training and development. Andre was the UK gaming scientist for the EU Player project 2009-2011 and lead researcher on the EU – Make IT Global project (internationalisation of female SMEs) and a trainer for the EU TradeIT Summer Entrepreneurship Academy (Intrapreneruship, Finance for SMEs). Andre led on the development of the BA Entrepreneurship and has developed the student Peer2Peer model which enhances student employability on graduation presently 100% placements of all students. Andre is research active and projects include Language in the Workplace, Cultauriture, Machine Consciousness, technological determinism, enterprise 360, etc. Recent EU submissions under the H2020 initiative include developing a Moodle for Web based entrepreneurship and Enhancing access to entrepreneurial support with partners across Europe.  Andre manages a number of KTPs with SME and other corporate partners, e.g. London Union (www.streetfeastlondon.com). Andre manages two EU wide development projects to on-going H2020 submission, one focussed on social innovation across the EU Food supply chain innovation and the other Digitising Culture initiative with a network of EU organisations and institutions. Andre manages three Erasmus+ projects (social enterprise, social care in community, youth sports entrepreneurship) with a wide cross section of partners across the EU (Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden). Andre runs workshops on H2020 submissions and recently delivered a serious of lectures at the Warsaw University of the Life Sciences (WULS), these included financial management for enterprise and Globalisation.  Andre has written successful grants for many local, national and international agencies. Andre also manages projects with a number of international partners and has completed the social enterprise facilitator training offered by the British Council. Andre was lead facilitator on an Active Citizenship Social Enterprise Leadership programme in Malaysia in October 2016. For the Association of Business Professionals, Andre developed a PG Diploma suite in Intrapreneurship, Entrepreneurship, Social Enterprise and International Financial Services Management and Islamic Finance and Banking. Presently, Andre is developing qualifications in social enterprise and STEM – Social Technology Award. Andre also manages a Pan European project to develop the Social Enterprise Qualifications Framework for the EU, and leads on a British Council project to promote Social Enterprise across India. Andre is also an Ofqual Expert in Economics, Entrepreneurship, Islamic Banking and Finance and Financial Management (Level 3, 4, 5. 6 and 7). Andre has previously worked on various internationally funded projects, including Workforce Development Projects for USAID (1997 – 2001), through TDA projects (2003-2008) to EU funded projects in Nepal and Pakistan in 2008-10. Andre has enjoyed significant success in submitting tenders and bids for projects (₤7 million plus) and managing delivery. He also has extensive experience in both creating and managing the development of learning resources, particularly using E-Learning. In 2007 as a Project Lead for the National Teaching and Learning Change Programme, he oversaw the conceptualisation, development and piloting of new materials with 30 FET providers and employer bodies supporting the Engineering Diploma. His work on the PE zone, a resource commissioned by the TDA, has resulted in an enduring source of online support for PE teachers. Andre has published in the field of entrepreneurship education, human language technology and African oral literature, further he has led and supported international research projects in these areas and developed the Publish and Thrive Model (with colleagues  for supporting developing early career researchers). Through this model Andre has training many early career researchers to develop their publications records in both South Africa and the UK, and he supports submissions to research funding across the EU and beyond. At the 2013 Royal Docks Business School graduation Andre was vote ‘Best Undergraduate Teacher’ by the class of 2013.
