Japan (Hokkaido University) Distinguished Professor Yasuhiko Suzuki conferred with honorary PhD from Mahidol University, Thailand
Distinguished Professor Yasuhiko Suzuki has received an Honorary Doctorate in Public Health Microbiology from Mahidol University. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand conferred the recognition on Professor Suzuki, Director of the International Institute for Zoonosis Control, on October 14, 2022.
The honorary doctorate is awarded every year to individuals who have made outstanding achievements in their respective academic fields and contributed to the development of academic science in Thailand. Professor Suzuki was awarded the honorary doctorate in recognition of his contribution to public health microbiology in Thailand.
“Since my first visit to Mahidol University in 2000 to give a lecture on tuberculosis, I have conducted numerous joint research projects with Thai universities and national research institutes, which I believe led to this honorary doctoral degree. I am proud of this honorary doctorate and thank my Thai colleagues for this glory,” said Yasukiho Suzuki.
This award recognizes his 300-plus publications, including original research papers, on tuberculosis and drug-resistant bacteria; his contribution to public health in Thailand, through joint research projects and through human resource development—accepting doctoral students from Thailand to Hokkaido University for training.
